Children tend to have a hard time communicating how they feel and what they think, even when surrounded by love and stability. As they grow up, they often face circumstances that might make them feel guilty, fearful or insecure; and by not expressing those feelings, overtime, they start developing negative and limiting beliefs about themselves.
Some children go through some serious and even tragic changes, such as parents divorce or death of a close member of the family, that make it obvious that they will have difficulties coping. However, seemingly inconsequential changes, such as moving to a new home, changing schools, or the arrival of a sibling, can also cause a lot of stress in a child, who doesn’t really know how to explain what he/she is feeling, and the stress may manifest as changes of behavior, like acting out, or appearing unusually quiet, while parents might have no clue of what to do to help the child.
These constitute great examples of how our Art Workshops, guided by a certified facilitator in the Art4Healing method, are an incredible option to help children not only to deal with these situations in a healthy way, but also develop their emotional intelligence and their self esteem in a lasting way, all in a context of activities children are naturally drawn to.
Creative Art Workshops such as ours give kids a way of communicating without words, providing an outlet to release loaded thoughts and emotions.
• How to use colors and shapes to express themselves
• Some introspection and exploration of their personalities
• To analyze their relationships with others
• Increased self awareness leading to increased self-confidence
As opposed to formal art therapy sessions, our art workshops do not include any interpretation at all of the work, and that’s not the idea. Through the guided sessions they learn to use colors and shapes to freely and creatively express themselves, and to connect with themselves in a safe environment.
Children attending our workshops will gain self confidence and improve their ability to form healthy relationships with friends and family. Even though everything may not stick immediately, it will be embedded for later in life and that’s the point!
